The Recipe: Clam Chowder –Brik

This recipe is a favorite from my husband’s grandma’s family cookbook.

Ingredients:

2 6.5 oz cans minced clams

1 cup diced onion

1 cup chopped fine celelry

2 cups chopped fine potatoes

3/4 cup butter

3/4 cup flour

1/2 tsp sugar

1 1/2 tsp salt and pepper

1 qt half and half (or milk)

Drain juice from clams and pour over vegetables in sauce pan. Add enough water to barely cover. Cover and simmer until potatoes are tender, about 20 minutes. Melt butter, add flour. Blend and cook 1-2 minutes Add cream (or milk) and cook, stirring constantly until smooth and thick. Add vegetables and clams and heat through.

    The clam chowder was delicious! Great recipe. I’ve actually had it before, but the first time I made it, my husband was trying to be helpful and just dumped all the ingredients in at the same time, so it wasn’t thick enough and the potatoes were way too mushy. Not good at all, but this time, it turned out excellent. 5 stars. Even my baby loved it. –Brik

    I absolutley loved this recipe! it turned out so great, and everone enjoyed it. we even doubled it and we barely had any left overs. I made it a bit too thick, but you can always remedy that by adding a little milk. It tastes great with sour dough bread 🙂 5 stars!
